Transformation for EditShare: Enhancing FLOW for Creative Collaboration

Background

EditShare, founded in 2004, builds network shared storage and media management solutions to enable collaborative media workflows on-premise, in the cloud or in a hybrid configuration. Their open software solutions include media optimized shared storage management, archiving and backup, and media management to improve workflow collaboration and third-party integrations across the entire production process. In 2021, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) awarded EditShare an Emmy® for Technology and Engineering for FLOW, a cloud-enabled remote editing and project management technology.

FLOW media management solution empowers users to manage media & entertainment production and post-production from the cloud, speeding up the creative process by enabling remote collaboration and editing between teams. EditShare recognized the immediate need to enhance creative capabilities and modernize the FLOW platform for its user community. They tapped DSR Corporation to integrate industry-leading video editing platforms and enterprise-level media management into the FLOW legacy solution. In less than two months, DSR developed a demo for EditShare, including new UI/UX interfaces, and integrated third-party platforms.

The Solution

DSR supported EditShare's vision of creating a powerful media management and editing platform by integrating third-party editing tools and revamping the user interface and experience. Utilizing the Agile project management method, DSR delivered a working product demonstration on-time, in a short time-window. Through close collaboration with EditShare, DSR was able to quickly define and understand product and technology requirements, and develop use cases. The updated technology stack modernized the architecture to be scalable at the enterprise level. DSR integrated EditShare's FLOW product panel with leading non-linear video editors, Adobe Premier Pro and DaVinci Resolve. The DSR-prepared UI/UX kit for EditShare's FLOW panel was adopted by EditShare for all of their FLOW products and later performed final testing and debugging of the Flow Panel plugin to deliver to EditShare.

The final EditShare FLOW media management platform for remote video editing and production won an Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and NAB's Product of the Year (2021). DSR led the effort in rebuilding EditShare's FLOW media management panel by performing complex, media software development services for the back and frontends of the FLOW panel. Integrating EditShare's FLOW Panel with Adobe's and DaVinci's video editing platforms gives FLOW users the most accessible and powerful tools for media editing. It took fewer than three months for DSR to build and deliver a working demo to demonstrate the powerful features we had built into the FLOW panel. DSR both designed and built the backend architecture and UI/UX, which EditShare then utilized for their family of products.
